Trail Access: Is Your Trail Threatened?

By walker on 2/17/2008 on walker's blog

Your favorite trail could be closed next year! Yep, here I go with another post about the potential closure of trails in the coming year. Why is this such a big deal? Well, once again for your education, the Forest Service is looking closely at how they manage recreation in most national forests. Already some folks are up in arms about the government doing reviews. According to the Montrose Press, a local Colorado paper, Colorado Wild is one of five plaintiffs in a recent lawsuit against

Kennebec Pass Waterfall

Kennebec Pass Waterfall

The Kennebec pass ride is one of Colorado's best! A 50-mile ride from town and 6,500 feet of elevation gain. It goes high as well - 10,300 feet. This waterfall greats you just after pulling on to the singletrack!

Description
The trail head starts at 8th Avenue and 3rd Street, with a parking lot along the tree line. The beginning of the trail is up a rocky 4-wheel drive trail, but then turns into meadows. At the top of the dirt road, you have the choice of turning left or right. Turning right will lead you into the meadows where there are a few different trails. Just follow the signs. If you choose to turn left, the trail gets difficult and goes up the ridge face for some good climbs and descents.

A conversation with a Giant

By walker on 9/13/2006 on walker's blog

Have you heard a mountain bike mechanic describe his or herpassions, lately? Did they talk about this:

- The stupid rain

- A hard-technical-uphill-over-rock-thing

- That Chupacabra presence

- What's on for Friday?

Well, good. Then you probably know my mechanic friend.

My friend, the mechanic, and I talked about the World Cup New Zealand race scene. He's a mechanic so I heard about the most random of events in the pits. Such as:

- Parking lot fights with the racers

- Philosophical debates about road stems

I was in Durango on September 11th

By walker on 9/11/2006 on walker's blog

Four years and 364 days ago, I arrived in Durango, Colorado. It was midnight when I pulled into my friend's house. The uncommon air was crisp and cool; nothing like the Oklahoman humidity I was used to. I backed my packed jeep into my friend's garage and crashed on his sofa -- I made it Durango.

I woke up the next Monday morning and opened the blinds. It was a blessing to be in Durango. My new home. Lazily I prepared my morning coffee. I looked through my bag to gather my mountain biking and climbing gear -- today I planned to play outside. With my hot coffee, I sat on the sofa and switched on the TV.

Me and my old lady

By greggles on 9/7/2006
Me and my old lady

This is from a trip I took with my old lady and some friends - the essence of me mountain biking is spending time with people I like. The physical challenge and nature around me are secondary to the time with friends.
