DIY Front Fenders

I just checked the weather for Bruceton Mills and see that we are expecting some rain on Friday night. That means mud is a real possibility for the race. Last year, I installed a great addition to my bike in the form of a front fender. Although I could drop a few bucks on one, I made one instead. Here is the deal:

Parts and Equipment List:

1 1-liter water bottle
4 zip ties
1 knife or scissors to cut bottle

Saturday's Ride (Technical difficulties)

By MikeG on 11/29/2006 on MikeG's blog

Saturday was a good ride day (even a bad day riding is a good day doing anything else sometimes!). The weather was cold though. There was a heavy, misty fog before daybreak. At the times we stopped to regroup, there was ice forming on our front brake cables and the fronts of our helmets. I kept on wiping my glasses off because they would fog up.

I also noticed that my brakes got really sticky, to the point that they would seize shut. The cable was getting stuck, and it would naturally slow me down. Look's like something I'd have to look at when I got home. I noticed lately that they were especially sensitive to the cold.

Ride of Nostalgia (well maybe) diatribe, home brew lights

By MikeG on 11/14/2006 on MikeG's blog
My homemade light set. It rocks!

Warning: this is a bit of a long diatribe, but if you choose to read it, there's a few useful things at the end of it.

Yesterday was another ride day for me. My regular group was not able to get together, so I managed to make alternate plans with others. I feel the need to get out there, and it probably has a lot to do with my commitment to lose weight, to get in better shape, and I LOVE the adrenaline.

I ran into my friend Jurgen (my veteran biker friend mentioned in previous blogs) at a kid's birthday party that we both had our kids attending the evening before. At the time there was a cold rain outside, so when I asked him if he wanted to go and he hesitantly said yes. I stated that I was going no matter what (it seems as though I am seriously hooked to MTBing). He mentioned that Kevin was interested in going (In a previous blog I mentioned how these guys got me started in the whole mountain bike thing). I was surprised because he had changed over, and had been dedicated to road biking for quite a while.
