By walker on 10/5/2006 on walker's blog I've got an audio report from my Vegas trip last week -- not just to the massive Interbike trade show, but also to some of the fantastic mountain biking trails in the area. Las Vegas is "Sin City"? Not from my perspective. |

Audio: Biking & Interbiking in 'Sin City'
YourMTB user photo spotted at Interbike
|
By Steve Outing on 9/30/2006 This was kinda cool. I stopped by the Spenco booth at Interbike and saw this backdrop that sales and marketing manager Anne Miller-Larsen had commissioned for the show. Note the photo in the upper right. That was a picture submitted by YourMTB.com member ehansen007 as part of the user review glove giveaway program we did a while back. (As part of this program, glove recipients had to post an objective product review, and optionally include a photo. By posting a review or photo, participants in the program agreed to permit Spenco to use their stuff in marketing programs.) |
Stairmaster transportation
|
By Steve Outing on 9/30/2006 Spotted at Interbike: Pedals are so "out," y'know. ... Do you think this is the future of bicycling? The 3G Stepper is sort of like a Stairmaster that moves. ... To answer my question, umm, no. |
Socks to impress your riding buddies
|
By Steve Outing on 9/30/2006 At Interbike, the Sock Guy had these special edition socks made of gold-colored thread. Pretty darn fashionable! They were giving away pairs of these socks -- alas, they've run out by the time I got to the booth. I'm not sure if these will end up in stores; the rep admitted they hadn't tested them for durability. I should've asked if they smell better after a hard ride. 8^) |
'Unabomber' glove
|
By Steve Outing on 9/30/2006 From Fox, the Unabomber mountain bike glove. (Actually introduced in 2005.) Umm, anyone remember who the Unabomber was and what he did? ... Next year from Fox, the Osama glove? 8^) |
Mountain unicycling, anyone?

By Steve Outing on 9/30/2006 A pretty cool mountain unicycle spotted at Interbike, by Surly. Note the super fat tire and the brake handle under the seat. |
Weird power assist
|
By Steve Outing on 9/30/2006 I saw some weird stuff at Interbike this week, like this contraption. It's a power-assist wheel set-up from RevoPower, powered by gas that's in the water bottle you see on this demo bike. While this bike has no suspension, the RevoPower website shows the thing on a full-suspension mountain bike! ... I could've used this yesterday while on a really sandy trail outside of Las Vegas, when my legs just weren't up to the task! 8^) Actually, the Interbike trade show had a LOT of power-assisted bikes. There seem to be a growing number of companies tapping into the market of bike commuters. |
The most eye-catching things at Interbike
|
By walker on 9/30/2006 on walker's blog What catches your eye when you're around the town, at the mall or on the trail? Scientists tell us that the brain likes novelty. We like new things we've never seen before. I think that's why, during the movie series Friday the 13th, the cute girl with the short shorts on walks slowly closer to the dark closet. We are all sitting in the theater thinking, Don't go in there, he's got an axe. You know better, you idiot. Yet, she is compelled to. It is her nature. There is nothing she can do. The same goes for my experience at Interbike. I was drawn to the unusual at the show. If someone watched me, they might think, Don't go over there. It is just a shiny piece of metal. Don't do it. You might say that I had short shorts on and went into the dark closet. Thankfully, Jason wasn't there to chop me to bits. |
Interbike 2006 -- I made it in
|
By MTBikeAZ on 9/30/2006 on MTBikeAZ's blog I was in Vegas this week for a business conference that just happened to be right next to Interbike. All day long I saw bikers walking to and fro the Sands Expo decked out in either riding gear or loaded with Interbike schwag. Jealous. A series of awesome events led to a sneak peak of the showroom floor on Tuesday night, and then on Friday I was able to get in on a media pass. Tim Grahl from the Crooked Cog Network set the wheels turning that got me in to the show. Tim is one cool dude. What a sweet place Interbike is. I hardly knew what to do with myself. Powered up on energy drink and Power Bar samples I hit every outfit I could, snapping pictures and soaking in the gear. |
