The Story

Some friends are planning to ride the Monarch Crest this weekend, and I'm trying to figure out if I can make it. Ran into this nice video tour of the trail (on Absolute Bikes' website). Monarch Crest, which runs atop the Continental Divide, is a must ride! I've done it a couple times, and want to do it again.

Labor Day: Getting Ready For The Ride Of Your Life

By walker on 8/29/2007 on walker's blog

According to a recent report by the UN, Americans work shorter hours than most of the world. Yeah, that's right, the report says most of the world works 48 hours a week and yet we complain about, on average, 40 hours a week. If you're interested in hearing the report on National Public Radio, click here.

In the clouds - Monarch Crest Trail

In the clouds - Monarch Crest Trail

I snapped this image on the Monarch Crest Trail (near Salida, Colorado) during the 2006 "Crest Crank" benefit ride. This is the portion of the trail that rides on or near the crest of the Continental Divide, between 11,000' and 12,000'. It's one of the most spectacular trails you'll ever ride. Our time above timberline was inside a cloud, but it started to clear out a few miles in, as you can see in this photo, with some sun peaking through.
