Trail Art In Bend, OR

By mtb_grrl on 7/12/2007
Trail Art In Bend, OR

This was some trail art which I assume was put in place by COTA (Central Oregon Trail Alliance) on the Voodoo Trail in Bend, Oregon. There is also a mtb gnome that is decked out with chain and other various parts. Totally forgot to take my mardi gras beads for him last time. He was looking un-blinged. LOL.

Black Rock "Monkey Mountain" (Falls City, OR)

The Story

"Once upon a time at the foot of a great mountain (Black Rock Mountain Bike Area) there was a town (Falls City) where the people known as "happy folk" lived. Their very existence a mystery to the rest of the world (who mostly just rolled through town on their way to the trails) obscured as it was by great clouds." : "Then one day... strange folk arrived in the town. They came in camouflage, hidden behind dark glasses. And no one noticed them..." This song by Gorillaz reminds me a lot of how the local freeride/downhill community kind of descended on the town of Falls City - drawn to the area by the Black Rock Mountain Bike area trails located just 3 miles west... I've wanted to put a video together with this song as the backdrop, and I finally did. Shot some HD footage May/June 2007 at Black Rock and also in Falls City, and here is the result. (And no, there's no issues between the "city folk" at Falls City and the riders... in fact, the town love to see riders... They want to do more to invite more to come visit.) Stop in at the local grocery store or grab a burger at the bar/grill... That does a lot to help show support for the local town! The other message this video has is this... I believe that the city of Falls City could re-invent itself if it choose to... instead of declining under dependence on logging operations. Instead, they could "mine the rich seam" of what recreational mountain biking opportunities have to give - cooperating with Oregon State agencies to develop a mecca in the heart of Willamette Valley.

Fun Rides in Southern Oregon?

<em>absurdnerd</em>'s picture
By absurdnerd on 5/27/2007

Hello all,

I was hoping that someone out there might be able to recommend some good rides in southern Oregon, because I'll be stationed there for 3 months this summer and I'm bringing my bike. :) The nearest towns to my post are Butte Falls, Eagle Point, White City, Central Point, Medford and Ashland. I'm an intermediate rider who's looking for some gorgeous scenery and adventure along some fun (but not too technical) single track trails. Any advice from locals or other gurus would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :)

Alpine Trail, Oakridge, Oregon

This is a cliff section of the Alpine Trail in Oak Ridge, Oregon. Taken at last year's Mountain Bike Oregon (MBO) event. Awesome riding - awesome people from around the globe. I am doing both of them this year.

Description
This is a mountain bikers amusement park. Open to only MBers, and maintained by Santiam Bike Shop, it is well organized, and always worth the drive. With built skinnies, planks, gaps, and drops, this place is amazing. Rated green circle to black diamond, it's great for the intermediate to the advanced

Sunday was great...

Before you read this, make sure you check out Sarge’s post of ‘Happy Dad’. That was our Sunday together. For Sarge and I it was pretty much the first day of spring riding. For his daughter, it was the first day out after a couple of months without riding as well as her first time up on the Ashland trails. If you haven’t been to Ashland Oregon for Mountain Biking you’re missing out. You can ride all week long and never hit the same trail. The weather was great this weekend.

A soft breeze blew sending the pleasant smell of Manzanita, Pine and fresh spring water from Lithia Creek all over the mountain side. It was a pleasant 65 degrees, blue skies and just a hint of billowy white clouds caressing the horizon.
