Wow - What a Race!

8:30 a.m. -- We arrived in Charlotte for the Cowbell Challenge where we were directed to the parking area assigned to Duos - directly under the power lines. You could actually hear them "sizzling" overhead - a rather ominous sign to my way of thinking! Despite that, my husband Steve and I set up the sunshade and gathered our supplies - food, liquids, helmets, gloves, bikes, sunscreen, chair, chamois butter (which I naturally forgot to apply...) and got ourselves checked in at the registration tent.

Follow this link: HERE... The website you're looking at is the website for the Great Divide Mountain Bike Race. Touted as:

Self-supported ultra-endurance mountain bike racing

The race is truly epic!

I mentioned the race in my latest podcast and thought some added text would help us learn more about the epic of EPICS...

Check out their audiocast: HERE...

Now for a question...?

Have you taken it epic recently? Did you say to yourself: NEVER AGAIN! Have you been scared of being destroyed by weather? Have you been hungry, yet still pedaling?

24 Hours of Walker (in Moab)

Walker at last year's 24 Hours of Moab: Catching some ZZZ's?

Once again, YourMTB.com's enthusiast-in-chief, Walker Thompson, is riding in the 24 Hours of Moab mountain bike race (October 14-15).

He's one of those crazy people who will ride this race solo. (Slightly less crazy are those folks doing it in teams.)

What's it like to do a 24-hour mountain bike race by yourself? You'll have a chance to find out, vicariously, in a cool video project that we're planning for Walker. He'll be riding with a video camera (a tiny one) and at the end of each lap, he'll record his thoughts on the last lap.

Getting things setup the day before the race.

Just a little FYI: The 24 Hours of Pisgah, based in North Carolina (www.enduroadventures.com) is September 16 and 17. Their having a music festival while the race is going on. Awesome course. Anyone in that area ought to stop by and check it out.

(quoted from the site)
"Don't miss this unique, exhilarating Mountain Bike Relay event. This was the largest MTB event in New Zealand last year with over 3,000 riders.

Individuals, teams of two/three or four/five compete on an 8km, 30 minute circuit over 12 hours from 10.30am to 10.30pm. New for this year is the option of a 2/3 person team 6 hour event starting 10.30am and finishing 4.30pm. Both grades ride the same circuit which has been specifically designed for the event to cater for all ability levels.

The track includes fast open park grounds, awesome downhill, pine needle covered forest tracks, challenging single tracks and magnificent scenery including the mighty Waikato River."
