The StoryThis video was shot in 2004 at Afan Forest Park in South Wales. It features the Wall and Skyline trails and was captured using on-board cameras...Sony PC-100's I seem to remember, with a fibre optic attachment. We got a pro guy in to set up cameras facing up to the riders faces, forward facing and rear facing, muggins got to walk the trails and capture the action with a TRV900e, one of the original Sony Mini DV cameras.
We shot over 30 hours of footage over two days, to complete an adventure/instructional DVD called Big Ride, which is now on release in the U.K.
For some time, I have sat watching MTB DVDs and whilst I am genuinely thrilled to see cool tricks and stunts, I felt there was a market for a video for guys and girls to get not just action but, skills and confidence to take take their off road bikes on an adventure.
The jist of Big Ride is then to have a pro rider, take four amateurs on a weekend adventure to improve their mountain bike skills and catch the big ride vibe.
We chose Afan, as it was a fast up and coming location, within reasonable distance from us, so it made sense to check it out first. We plan to shoot five more, encompassing the length and breadth of the UK to complete the series. |
