Description
The Foothills Trail is a 12-foot wide non-motorized asphalt trail/linear park suitable for bicycles, walking, in-line skates and wheel chairs. It also has a soft shoulder path for equestrians. Completed paved sections include 15 miles from Meeker to the South Prairie Creek in South Prairie and a 1.8 mile section in Buckley. Our future plan is to continue the trail to Sumner where we will connect with the Interurban Trail that now extends through Kent and Auburn. The trail in Buckley will continue east to Enumclaw and King County. The Foothills Trail has been constructed in sections as finances, environmental permits and county ownership have allowed. When complete, the trail will be more than 28 miles in length.

Fort Ebey (Kettles)

Description
An old hang-out of mine, pretty much where I started riding a few years ago. Fort Ebey contains 25 miles of bike trails including a wide variety of single track, double track and fire roads. I even ate it on a botched jump riding my friend's brand new StumpJumper. There is something for everyone here. And remember that Whidbey Island is in the "rain shadow" so winter isn't as wet here as everywhere else which makes this a great winter ride.

I used to go here alot when living on Whidbey Island. It's a bunch of single track tucked into the city of Anacortes which provides nice little coffee shops and restaurants, even a bike shop, Skagit Cycle Center. But being surrounded by trees you forget that you are in the middle of a town. Every now and then you will pop up behind someones house. No worries, there are plenty of trails here. So many trails here are unmapped, so have fun. I got lost a few times myself.

Getting back into the swing of things

I got my first ride of the summer in today. I know, I was underwater for 3 months. It felt great to be back on the pedals again. Banner Forest isn't much, but it was enough to get me going again after a long hiatus. I might go back tomorrow and explore a little more. Can't seem to find my hydration bladder so drinking water is a pain, having to stop to get some refreshment. Glad it's not hot here in the great Northwest.

This is an outstanding network of trails. It has a little something for everybody. The trails are about 90% marked, and it has a nice beach to relax at afterward. Be mindful of the campers, and the hikers...there are plenty. Of note, make sure that you hit up the following trails: IMBA and Log Jam. These are really great trails. The only negative thing that I could say is that the trails might be a little sandbagged. The level of difficulty might be a little fluffed, but other than that...it's an awesome area.

Ape Cave Trail, Mt St Helens, WA

By mtb_grrl on 5/29/2007
Ape Cave Trail, Mt St Helens, WA

Ape Creek Trail around Mt. St. Helens, WA. Did this trail on Memorial Day - Fun riding up there. I will be riding that a lot this summer. I put my bike in the background for an elevation/declination point of reference, but it didn't work very well. It was fairly steep going up, but made for some good fun coming down.

Interview with local Bellingham, Wash., rider

By walker on 10/20/2006 on walker's blog
Josh on the trails...

I'm talking with a local rider from Bellingham, Washington. His name is Josh Mather. I thought, what better way to learn about the riding in Bellingham than to interview a local rider. Let's begin...

Q: Josh, why should anyone travel here to ride?

A: Because it is sick and it is fun.

Q: Where is the best place to ride?

A: Galbraith is the best place to ride, but there are many options as well. The Chuckanut mountains are large enough to support lots of trails. One of the coolest things about riding in Bellingham is the mixture of the styles of riding. If you like to XC, then you have lots of trails and miles of riding. If you are into freeriding, then you will be at home in Bellingham: lots of built up terrain and natural obstacles.
