Hoot, Toot & Whistle      [ top of page ]

I have been wanting to ride this trail for years and finally did it last week. OK, it's nothing to jump up and down about but besides MTB I am also a train buff and this trail has alot of sentimental value in that regard. This rail line used to connect Readesboro to Wilmington and has quite a history behind it. The trail itself is basically dual track and for most part pretty well packed. In the road cuts does it tend to get a little a soupy and in the one detour over a stream because the original wooden trestle has been long since removed. In quite a few sections, there are the original railroad ties still in the ground and if you look closely you will see an occasional spike, too. The trail head at Mt Mills Picnic area is really convenient with plenty of port-a-potties and a swimming area, too.
