Going down toward the river - steep steep down

  • To get there:
  • - Drive toward Estes Park from Lyons, CO
  • - Turn LEFT on CR47 (Big Els Medow)
  • - Go up the road which become dirt. Make a LEFT up the dirt road when faced with a left/right choice.
  • - Park at the behind the gate, BLM land.
  • The RIDE:
  • - Now get your bike and go up the dirt 4x4 road for couples miles
  • - After the top, it'll come down (still jeep road), you'll pass a big mud pool for jeeps
  • - (THE TRICKY Turn): half mile after the mud pool should another one smaller (might be dry), on the left look for a small YELLOW SIGN "no motor vehicle" - GO AROUND that fence/sigh and go up the single track. (IF you reach TR 921, another single track - you've gone TOO FAR, come back and find the yellow sign)
  • - Once you're on the single track, you're all good. Keep going up till you reach high point dominating the coulson gulch valley. BOmb down... till you reach the river (couple miles)
  • - At the River, there's no choice, just keep following the trail along the river down
  • - You'll cross couple bridges but again there are no junctions, so keep going down, till the last bridge where it'll start going up.
  • - go up the trail, when faced with a choice, go left... up the long single track that will eventually take you to the parking lot....

  • JP1 40.23823 N -105.44317 W 8367ft singletrack leaves to left from the Forest Service road
  • JPRight 40.23097 N -105.43742 W 8339ft stay right at the spur that goes up to a dead-end
  • JP916 40.22819 N -105.41151 W 7054ft stay left and climb up valley
Description
This is a 2-3 hours ride depending on how much sight seeing, playing you do... An awesome backcountry ride, with one tricky turn off. Situated half way between Lyons, CO and Estes Park, CO
