If you park at the Dickerson Homestead (flagstone sign on south side of Rd 44H) you will see a small sign at a fire road for Monument Gulch. Take this road north-west to a connection with Old Flowers Rd, (fire road) which can be taken east to the Stove Prairie rd (paved) south to 44H (Buckhorn Rd, dirt) for what I have been told is a 30 mile loop. An alternate is to take Monument Gulch to the Pingree Park rd, south to the Buckhorn rd at Pennock Peak pass/Pennock Creek, and back to Monument Gulch on 44H. This is approx 12 miles, with steep sections. Biting flies at times during the summer. Pingree and 44H (Buckhorn rd) are dirt roads. Remember to avoid during weekends-I almost got run off the road in the CAR, coming home by a truck and trailer full of ATV's! The best part can be had as an out and back up and down Monument Gulch road. A side note: Apple of the Mummy's Eye is a book about the Dickerson sisters whose family homesteaded this area. Fascinating and inspiring.

Initial steep climb, then pretty mild climb to intersection with Old Flowers Road or Pingree Park Road. Avoid on weekends-masses of ATV's going very fast.
