Description
A good ride that is close to Boulder, CO. Ride counter clockwise which will allow you to start with a quick decent. Good climbs, good descents with nothing too technical. Use the GPS file to check out the elevation profile. Get to this trail by taking Baseline exit. Baseline eventually turns into Flagstaff Road. CLIMB UP (and probably past a ton of roadies) for about 4 miles. After about 2 miles of descending look for a well marked trailhead on your LEFT. DON"T MISTAKE the Meyers Homestead Trailhead (see my other posts for that GPS file) which is about .5 miles before Walker Ranch trailhead and located on the right.

Do it counter-clockwise      [ top of page ]

Posted by: Steve Outing on 5/5/2007
Rode Walker today -- for the first time, did the loop clockwise, despite general advice that counterclockwise is more fun. That advice is sound. Fun trail either way, but now that I've done it both ways, I definitely favor counterclockwise. (For one thing, there's some steep hike-a-bike next to South Boulder Creek. You're carrying your bike either direction -- unless you're Super Downhill God with a 10-inch suspension bike and nerves of steel -- and it's much easier to carry your bike down the steep path than up it!

One of best in Boulder      [ top of page ]

This is one of my favorites close in to Boulder. Because of an overzealous county (and city, which owns lots of open space) that haven't been that friendly to mountain bikers over the years, unless you want to drive a fair bit, there aren't that many good trails available to Boulder residents. (Great irony, since IMBA is based here.) Walker Ranch is one of the best, though. Excellent workout and great scenery. There's one short section that's hike a bike -- down some steps to South Boulder Creek. Otherwise, some nice fast romps and heart-thumping uphills.
