About Me

mgersib's guestbook

Hi, I've read that you have a bontrager ti built as a single speed. I have one also that I want t build as a single speed. Mine is 100% stock. You say that you can run a 36/18 or 34/16 without a chain tensioner. Could you elaborate on your build? I would appreciate any info, I have a 17" frame. Would that effect the gears working without a tensioner? Thanks, Scott. Please email me at venicelake@gmail.com.

Appreciate the invite!

The freedom you have to go wherever you want to go.
Favorite MTB Destination
Fruita/Grand Junction, Colorado
Where I've Been
All over the United States, with a focus on the Western states. Never been to Europe with a bike, though I'd like to someday. Australia is another place I'd like to visit/ride.
My Bikes
This is an ever-changing list, but current rides include (in the order of frequency ridden): - 2006 Salsa Dos Niner - 1996 Bontrager TiLite - set up SS - 2004 Kona Stinky Deluxe - 1995 Bontrager Race - 1996 Bontrager RoadLite Commuters: 1997 Trek 930; 1991 Specialized Epic (the road bike - set up SS) Coming Soon: 2007 Intense Spider 29; 2007 Kona Kula-29
Favorite Trail
Moore Fun, near Fruita, Colorado. It's my favorite because whether you're going up or down, you better have your kung-fu correct or you're not going to be riding much.
MTB Tip
- Look down the trail, not directly in-front of you. - Visualization works. Use it to be successful on your bike, and in life. - Don't be afraid to try. You learn the most profound lessons through failure.
Favorite Memory
Ripping down the "Gates of Hell" downhill outside of Lyons, Colorado with my good buddy Pablo. Both of us were on xc bikes, but we ripped that downhill harder and faster than I'd ever done before, or since. I may never ride that section like we did that day, but I'm awfully happy to have experienced it at least once. It was so loose and rocky that at one point, it seemed as if we were one with the rocks and scree flowing down the trail -- they just disappeared under our wheels. It was so good that I had tears in my eyes at the bottom. As we waited for the others to make their way down the hill, Pablo and I just shook our heads at our incredible luck in surviving our balls-out moto session.
Special Skills
- Wheelies -- including one-hand and no-handers. - Log rides - Technical descending - Cornering
