About Me

Hi there. After a year living and riding in Durango I've moved back to the front range where the jobs are real and the riding is still pretty darn good. I did have a great time in d-town, especially riding the sweet trails with many very kind and fun-loving locals.

This year I will be riding more MSC and Winter Park races that I missed last year. And I think I'll ditch the road races in lui of as many off-road events as I can fit in. My objectives are these:

- participate in many races and enjoy them. I don't need to completely bury myself each race to have a good time. But it's key that I get there and do them.

- As much as I love racing on my 3" travel Santa Cruz and my Taylor hard tail, I need to race on my FSR Stumpjumper more. Sure it feels slower, but I have so much fun on that bike and can still function the next day at work. I need to work on maximizing fun and more travel is one way to go about it.

- Otherwise, I plan on riding a lot and continuing to explore new trails. Since living up here in Lone Tree during the week I have some new territory to explore.

That's about it for me.

Favorite Thing about Mountain Biking
I love to zig, to zag and to whoop de doo. With friends or alone. I am free and once again, a kid.
Where I've Been
The trails in the coastal mountains in the Bay Area, California are among my favorite. Plenty of single track through dense forests with occasional pop outs to incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. I also love Wilder Ranch in Santa Cruz and riding Tahoe. Marin Country on Mt Tam is way sweet too. Near Colorado Springs, I love the Colorado Trail near Buffalo Creek. Long rides on single track there that go on and on. I also really enjoy the race course trails at Winter Park and Keystone. Speaking of great race courses, the Banana Belt Course in Salida is amazing... definitely a favorite of mine. I like riding here in Durango for the variety. There are so many great trails here that one can can ride on different single track for a month and not repeat... from town.
My Bikes
I ride a 1997 Santa Cruz Heckler and a custom Taylor, True Temper Hardtail. Other mountain bikes have come and gone in my life, but these two are like old friends I never want to part with.
Favorite Trail
My fravorite trail changes from year to year, and it probably has as much to do with the friends I ride with as the trail itself. At the moment the favorite trail that comes to mind is the Hermosa Creek trail I rode with Hal and Charlie last summer. What a ride that was.
MTB Tip
Let's see... if you are into racing here's some advice. Some of us who parent and work full time have a tough time controlling a peak or tapering effectively for a race. Unpredictable bad days can occur even when you've been training strong. When having a bad day in a race, my best advice is to make a decision early enough in the race to back off before you go too deep. Give up on a good placing. Get your mind into a fun zone and let your body recover. This approach can turn an unhappy suffer fest into a really fun time out on the course.
Favorite Memory
Dropping into the Enchanted Forest at Wilder Ranch for the first time, during my first year mountain biking.
Special Skills
Last year I did an endo, going up hill.
