Awesome!!! I really liked the skinnies, are they feasible?? |
cyklops says:
Thanks. Skinnies... feasible? yeah - they aren't hard to built. we've started to work with pressure treated lumber for the supports, but found that natural logs tend to pack in better (cuz they are round). if using pressure treated for supports try to get round posts - they'll set up better. in addition, a good tamper tool is nice but any good narrow log works well to pack dirt - and combination of rocks and dirt sets up post really solid. That actually is start of a skinny line that we're extending out of Basic Training and all the way along Banzai Downhill trail - once complete we'll have a skinny line that's 1 mile long! |
endoBoy says:
What I meant by feasible is if they can be made from start to end in one shot :P |

The build guidelines we use (approved by land manager) are available here http://blackrockfreeride.org/docs/BlackrockBuildSpec-Final-2004June21.pd... - that is, if you REALLY want to get into the specifics (we have a limit on height... anything over a specific height has to be a certain width wide - sort of a ratio thing - so if very high a "skinny" essentially becomes a "boardwalk"). For safety, also consider the fallzone. People WILL fall off... so make sure they aren't going to be impaled by stuff and large rocks aren't around for them to bash heads against, etc. |

good advices!!! thank you! |

And one more thing.. I have bad news... One of the main builders of the Basic Training area has passed away this week. In the video, he's the one with the bright yellow rims. He was my friend, and it's going to be REALLY strange riding the trails without him (Thanksgiving especially since last 3 years we've gone for an early morning ride...) All journey's come to an end, but this one ended far too soon. We are going to place a bronze cast memorial plaque at base of tree next to drop into Basic Training "Simulator" (Wade's favorite line). Plaque would read (to be approved by Wade's family): In memory of Wade Waddell Rider. Trail Builder. "Do more. Whine less!" {birth date} - November 20, 2006 |
