Tedshred Trails - Annadel State Park |
Steve Outing says:
Nice production, Ted! Wouldn't it be great if we had a video like this for most any trail that we're thinking about riding? That's one of our ultimate goals for this site, so I hope that not only will Ted give this treatment to more of his local trails, but that others might be persuaded to try something similar for their local trails! Never been to this one but it looks like fun. How does it hold up in the wet winter months? I wanna make sure it's worth the drive before I head up. Again, nice work on the vid. |
Tedshredtrails says:
Right now, Annadel is sweet. If it rains too much, it gets pretty sloppy (packed clay) and those cobblestones are slippery. Check weather.com for zip code 95404 and ride a few days after the last rain. Not much precip in site for the next 10 days so come on up! |

Way Cool Ted - !!! Tell us more what you use to do all that? regular light weight video camera and Windows Movie Maker or something similar ? or is it more like pro stuff? the 3D stuuf, and marking the trail with color... how do you do that? A part of that site should be dedicated on technology and training..... keep'em coming Ted |

All footage and still shots were taken on my Canon Powershot SD450, which is 5 megapixels and does 640x480 (standard TV def) video, all in a little spy-camera sized aluminium body. It was pretty inexpensive, and I bought a few 1 gig SD cards as well - need more! I produced the video on a Mac G4 Powerbook using Final Cut Pro, which is pro-grade software, but I am by no means a pro-video guy. I did the soundtrack in GarageBand, which is alot of fun too. The maps were adapted from PDFs in Photoshop and imported as 'layers' into FCP (are you with me?). Then wiped to reveal the 'line' layer over the 'map' layer. Poor-mans special effects, but it works! I haven't used Windows Movie Maker, but hear that it's free and supposed to be pretty good so give it a shot! The convergence of high-quality compact video gear, consumer-grade editing software and broadband internet access gave me (gives us!) the opportunity to share great rides with the masses. It's a pretty bare-bonez production, but like any good gear-head, I'll move up the food chain in mobile video gear. I already have a new helmet cam on the way! :-) |
fugie says:
Wow! Your video was fantastic. How long did it take to produce the video once you completed the shooting? |
Tedshredtrails says:
Many thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! After shooting, I put about 40 hours into the post-production. But that includes writing/recording/editing the voice-over, creating the maps, choosing or writing music, editing, battling technical issues, working full-time and raising a family. But I loved every minute of it! |
